Music at Seal Church

Music at Seal

Music matters to us at Seal. We enjoy a wide range of musical styles, so you will find everything from traditional anthems, sung by our robed choir, to a music group with a wide variety of musical instruments providing more contemporary music at some services.
Some services use recorded music to listen to, and at some evening services we sing hymns to recorded accompaniments.

Our choir rehearses on Wednesday evenings in term time.

The Junior Choir meets at 7 pm  for half an hour of singing together, currently led by Anne, the Vicar, and then stay on from 7.30 to 8pm to sing alongside the adult choir. A Junior choir sessions we sing a mixture of silly songs just for fun and songs we will be using in worship. We also try to learn some of the basics of vocal technique and reading music. Sessions are aimed at KS2 (Junior school age ) children, but younger children are welcome, and parents are welcome to stay if they like. Children don't have to make a commitment to come on Sundays, but obviously it is more rewarding for them if they can be part of the worship as well as coming on Wednesdays.

The Senior Choir meets from 7.30 to 8.30. As well as leading worship we sing anthems during Communion and at weddings and have an extensive repertoire of music, both ancient and modern. Singers - all voices - are welcome. It helps to be able to read music, but a willingness to have a go is the main qualification! We don't have auditions for the choir - come along and learn as you go!

The Music Group is made up of any reasonably competent instrumentalists who would like to join in and plays usually on the 2nd Sunday of the month during the administration of Communion. Singers who would like to give a lead to the congregation with the Music Group are welcome. There is a short rehearsal before the service on the 2nd Sunday.
